Melia Kaplan-Hartnett

Hey, I'm Mel! I am pursuing a BFA in the Arts with a concentration in painting at Colorado State University in the Liberal Arts College. While sketching and painting take up most of my time, I am also on the CSU color guard team representing my university in green and gold. I live with dyslexia and diabetes, and I enjoy making art about diabetes to show people what it's like.

Painting is all about expression. It's about telling stories whether the artist knows how the chapters flow. If the canvas tells nonfiction, fiction, biography, love, or action, it's all telling some kind of story.

Georgia O'Keeffe has inspired my artwork by the way her paintings abstractly reflect the real world through stories. She painted most of the landscapes and flowers in Santa Fe, except for Sky Above Clouds which she finished in 1963. In this painting, O'Keeffe became inspired while she rode in an airplane and looked out a window of beauty.
